Finding hidden gems inside Japan neighborhoods.

Tokyo Apartments (1/4)

By Sou Fujimoto

My Architecture Hunt plans begin when I visited Tokyo Apartments.
Enjoying Architecture doesn’t mean you just take pictures and left, Architecture responds to weather, light, and most importantly the surrounding people in the neighborhood.
ever since I studied architecture, my most important things is how people live in and around the architecture, since then every time I got the chance to enjoy the surroundings, just sitting there enjoying some bento/onigiri and enjoy.
That’s how it started because when I visited Tokyo Apartments, there’s a little park busy with people playing together, and they even talked to me and asked me to join them, other than architecture, connecting with people is one of favorite things to do.

Reflection of Mineral (2/4)

By Atelier Tekuto

Continuing the journey, I try going for the basic but hard to find Resident, and this one by Atelier Tekuto is a gem.
seeing the contrast of the hook building with the other residence is something else, wish I can go inside but once again we mind with our manner first.
looking on the outside, not much to say but for sure if you see the inside through other platform, its a for sure a gem. staying not too long, we can’t really do or connect with people around cause there’s not much to explore around it too.

NA House (3/4)

By Sou Fujimoto

Located around Koenji area, one of the best place in Tokyo according to me, this house aged beautifully.
As white is the main theme, I saw some aging, even though it might looks dirty in the photo, the patina in real life is actually beautiful.
The see through facade might confuse you at first, but I realized that the by using the split level concept, it secures the private and the public area, such an amazing layout if I must say.
The Owner actually was around and welcomed us, and I apologize for the abruption, so I asked for permission, sadly they actually wanted to let us go in the house but they about to go, so yeah opportunity missed but hey, it is what it is.

Row House (4/4)

By Tadao Ando

My most favorite hidden gem ever. Built in 1976 and it still looks amazing, maybe this is what you called timeless design.
The correspondence to surrounding yet being the emphasis is the unique point of this simple, beautiful reinforced concrete facade.
Thanks a lot to Kyouhei-San on the first picture who lived and introduced me to this humble yet amazing neighborhood. One of the most precious memory while I was solo travelling in Osaka.
